For a start it was really unwise for Mozilla to invest in rewriting heaps of the browser from an underdog position, they could have made smarter investments; though in the end I think servo did spawn off some important bits which made it into Firefox and provided tangible perf improvements

But the pivot into WebVR was very very silly and the project was pretty wasteful overall
