**openai**
today’s feed friday is the blog of an organization that set out to safely improve the field of artificial intelligence. it remains to be seen whether or not their advances will be seen as safe, but the improvement is clear.

rather than paraphrase, I will reproduce openai’s mission statement here:
OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI)—by which we mean highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work—benefits all of humanity. We will attempt to directly build safe and beneficial AGI, but will also consider our mission fulfilled if our work aids others to achieve this outcome.
I’ve recently started experimenting with the openai GPT3 API, as mentioned here and here, and probably a lot more in the near future.
the industrial age was about replacing human muscle power with machines. the information age is about replacing human intellect with machines. in that scenario, GPT3 is the steam engine. not the ultimate form of mechanical power, but one that is useful enough make wildly different arrangements of human society possible.**openai**
