Spent last night installing and testing alternative firmware on various consumer wifi routers. Tried OpenWRT, DD-WRT, and Tomato.
UX-wise, DD-WRT is my favorite so far, its fast and clean. Tomato was a bit sluggish, at least on lower end hardware. As for features, they each seem to have some small pros and cons, but I need to do some more testing.
Does anyone here use these, or is it consumer-grade junk to be avoided?
(I'm preparing these routers for non-technical people for home use)
