humans are predators. we tend to really like food when it's from an animal (cow, fish, etc). butter tastes good, and eggs satisfy you. wheat, soy, herbs, etc. those are more like supplements than the basis of a diet. as you might have guessed, i'm not vegan. i only resort to a plant diet in times of peril. most plants aren't a great source of protein. not even beans.
