If I was to sum up two major problems with our #politics they would be:

a) we have lost sight of the role of luck; we don't think our success is anything other than due to our hard work... and so other's failings are not unlucky, but personal weakness or ineptitude;

b) we fail to empathise with those who are relatively distant from us; we may understand & feel empathy for those close to us, but people less near, or different, we seldom can (or try) to empathise with....

Together this is toxic
