These things can be built so robustly that even if they were on top of a rocket which exploded shortly after launch, there probably wouldn't be a leak. Apollo 13 carried a nuclear thermal battery which survived reentry and is currently intact somewhere deep in the Pacific Ocean, completely impervious to the elements, and expected to remain so for most of a millennium (ten half lives, 870 years), after which less than 0.1% of the original Polonium will remain.
