so when people say the US is "sliding" into authoritarianism... what do you mean? what's the point where it **is** an authoritarian country? there are very few pure authoritarian countries, like North Korea. for most of anti-democratic countries, there is always some feisty court, some political process, or some "election". some vestige of civil society or media that is allowed to yell and hold marches. that doesn't mean it's not an authoritarian country.
