Mullvad is great. So is ProtonVPN. And while visit's post is tasteless, some of what they say holds merit. Quite a few of the recommended applications on PrivacyGuides site are not as privacy oriented as other options though I also understand the need for the options to be capable of being used by tech novices. I'm assuming that's why apps such as the stock iOS apps are recommended on that site. While user friendly and somewhat "privacy" inclined, those apps collect a treasure trove of data that get sent back to Apple. This is also due to the massive limitations Apple puts on developers when creating iOS apps such as being forced to use Safari Webkit when developing browsers.
