a damaged/worn cartridge doesn’t usually leak from the cartridge. What happens is that extra air gets into the system, and it does exactly what you describe which is to push extra ink out of the feed. The spring will definitely *not* cause this.

My guess is that the seal of the cartridge has gotten too loose to form a good seal with the feed post. This would both make it more likely to fall out *and* cause the kind of leak you’re describing.

Have you tried a new cartridge yet?
