Maybe if I doom-watch enough it will quiet the version of my father that lives in my head and gibbers anti-intellectual memes, conspiracy theories and stories about the Great Men who will Fix The World based on facts that look laughable under the barest scrutiny.
The part that repeatedly looks at me, and goes “but that’s my opinion, you have to acknowledge it” after stating the equivalent of “Elon Musk has discovered that drinking your own urine cures cancer! Soon hospitals everywhere will be prescribing urine for everything! I am not going to acknowledge that you, and every other sane person, agree this is insane! This is pure fact! I am going to tell you about this a length every time we talk and if you don’t like it then that’s a character flaw in you!”
That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works. It’s like talking to an edgy ten year old who has financial, emotional and social leverage over me.
