A couple of summers ago, I had the closest encounter I've ever had with a wild bird of prey. While hiking at Angel Rocks, about 50 miles from Fairbanks, Alaska, I watched some peregrine falcons doing some aerial acrobatics above us when one landed on a nearby rock outcropping only about 15 feet away. We watched each other for about five minutes before it took back off to the sky. It was such an incredible experience to see such a powerful bird up close!
