Some might take that experience and several similar (I had one very close to that at a former job) and conclude humanity isn't capable or even desirous of living up to those noble ideas we espouse.
"Our leaders follow the law when it's convenient or doesn't afford them any advantage to do otherwise" probably isn't something we want printed on our money but it seems like it's a more honest description of our society.
Now I'm depressed and have to go eat lunch. 🙁
