A better question might be what took me so long, given that I'd seen it mentioned for awhile on Twitter by a good few that I follow (Not least of which included Lyn Alden and Ed Snowden). And to that, I'd answer that all the association with crypto had me thinking it was just another Web3 Dapp that was trying to make social media you needed to pay for to interface with (something that I do believe I've seen dreamed up as people look for use cases for Ethereum).
I was quite pleasantly surprised to find that Nostr is nothing of the sort, and that to boot, it integrates Bitcoin through the Lightning Network in one of the most functional ways I've yet seen. Combine that with the resilience and design reminiscent of Usenet and FIDONet, both of which I have fond memories of, and I think I'll be here for a long haul.
