Thinking about people who argue that it’s necessary for there to be deterrents for serious crimes.

I know the reason I don’t do horrible things isn’t because there would be consequences.

So if someone argues that deterrents work… does that mean *they* would do that kind of thing if it wouldn’t affect them?

Is it that deterrents do work, but only for potential criminals who argue deterrents work?
