Some devs have told me that they were able to convince their bosses to add themed icon support by telling them that users would remove the app from their home screen if they didn't support it!
Apple forcing every icon to be tinted, regardless of whether the app actually supplies a grayscale icon, I feel, is a much more compelling reason to proactively support these features.
