The "Uncle Sam as cop" and "heave-ho" guys are both from Keppler illustrations for Puck (I added the top hat and monocle). The "Democratic mule" is from one of Muybridge's 19th century studies of horse movement, hand-cropped and tinted. The background is a half-toned WPA tourism poster for Montana.
