Honestly, this makes me think of the Fermi paradox a lot. Maybe civilizations can't do anything else than greed themselves extinct.
It's making me sad. Bacteria also grow until their culture medium is completely exhausted, but you'd expect a species with a 1.5 kg brain to do something different, no?
