This is a great fallacy in most democracies. The governors are elected can be turned down at any time. The presidents are elected frequently (until now).
Where in this game is someone with a strategy, that looks farther in the future then may 10 years?
This is exactly what most democracies lack (but to blame are the voters, since they decide rather for charismatic then intelligent people for a while now) any longterm planning. When you can show me that I am wrong I would be happy to learn.
