When I was a drug addict, I was bathed in shame because my father's half of the family used that as an excuse to stop helping me and cut me off completely from all help.

I am not anymore.

I realized the whole reason I was an addict was because of unresolved abuse, mental health issues my family should have helped me figure out as a kid but abused me for, then further shame when I asked for help as an adult.

Now I'm better and they ask me for help and I say no.
