meso (nprofile…gx4l) a and b are the secrets and you only modulo the result of the exponentiation. You take g^(a * b) and apply "modulo n" to that. The fact that you can convert the doubled exponentiation into a single one if you multiply the exponents, that's a mathematical rule. Nothing special about that.
