He's not saying that anyone should be able to limit another's speech, just that it's not necessary to be a dick just because you can be. It's about the individual choosing not to throw slurs when technically they could. And don't give me that crap about "guardian kings." Slurs come about by social consensus over time and we all know at least a few, some more well-known than others.

I fall on a different side of this argument.

Although I understand how and why (at least to some degree) these things come about, I feel that by giving them power, we rob ourselves of some of our own. If one loses their mind every time some rando on the internet calls them a spook then they really don't have the power in that situation, the slur does.

I don't believe in giving your power to the language others use and I certainly don't believe in giving power over to a single word.

I actually legitimately struggle with this one as my wife is black and my daughter is a little mochachino. My wife has experienced some racial profiling since we've been together (legitimately, not crying wolf) and I have no doubt in my mind that my daughter will as well.

My wife handles it with grace and indifference and I wish to grant my daughter with that same ability.
