The problem most people have with Google search is that they want it to be free, and they want it to benefit them personally.

If they are a user they want this free service to give them just the perfect page for their needs of the moment.

If they're a publisher they want this free service to shove their pages down everyone else's throats.

These two things are at cross purposes.
