Ok music people - can you name a solo artists whose output is better than the output of their band before they went solo?

Inspired by The John Lewis ad music (Sonnet by the Verve) and reminded that Ashcroft really wasn't that good after they split.

So I wondered if anyone did do something better after a split. I struggle to think of any.

It is not whether they made good music. It is whether they made better music solo.
