So one thing I didn't realize until I spun up my own instance was the sheer amount of data that goes through a #mastodon server every day.
My server quickly ate up over 20gb of media storage in just a couple of days.
Setting media retention policy to a day looks to have helped, with it peaking at around 15 gigs now.
I can only imagine how much storage is needed by instances that host thousands of users.
