I see a lot of questions about why CA is so “slow” at counting. This comes from a bit of a misunderstanding of how the votes are processed in CA.

CA lets voters register to vote on election day. Their voter registration needs to be verified before their votes are counted.
CA accepts vote-by-mail ballots up to a week after the election as long as they are postmarked by election day. (1/2)
