As an aside my relaxing helped. The car was damaged but I wasn't. A Dr said my actions stopped me being hurt.
The car was repaired and his insurance paid for it.

Why did I relax? I realised I couldn't stop him hitting me so I did what I could to protect me - not the car (I didn't have time to get the car out of the way).

I do appreciate that there are people in the US who are very much the car in this analogy and I wish it wasn't so.
