I'm halfway through Kim Stanley Robinson's BLUE MARS (the last of the trilogy, which is well worth reading) and it occurs to me that KSR is far more thoughtful, original, and interesting in exploring ecological design than, say, TC Boyle, who sees it as a cheap opportunity for one-note mayhem. KSR understands that wonder and recklessness walk hand in hand. Boyle is more of a dull nihilist who doesn't care all that much for ethical implications.
