Part of the problem is that people cannot fathom the amount of fraud and waste being uncovered by unelected bureaucrats right now.
The average person has a pretty good handle on $100,000 because they can relate it to salaries or home values for example. Even a million starts to get hard to understand.
But the levels of fraud and kickbacks are literally incomprehensible for many people so the gravity of the situation is not fully understood.
