One of the things I learned early on in my career, which has spanned more than three decades and encompassed being a writer, director, art director, creative director, photographer, and filmmaker, was that the one common tool, critical for success, was an air of confidence.

It wasn’t entirely clear to me that you needed to actually be confident or even always know precisely what you were doing, but confidence as a policy went a long way as a substitute for experience.
