Well, you know that the USA forced Germany to nearly halve the size of the Bundeswehr, as a precondition to reunification. Some Germans mistakingly think that the Americans are here to protect Germans from Russians, but they're actually here to tame the Germans.
But, like you say, slavery is a choice. Only thing EU citizens have to do, is be born, be European, and die.
