The transfer of power to nine (future) local elected mayors has prompted a delay of a year in nine local council areas where these mayoralties will be set up; unsurprisingly the Tories are remaining pretty quiet (as their counsellors are likely getting an extra year in post) while those threatening the incumbents (primarily Reform & the LibDems) are furious.
Is democracy delayed democracy denied? Well, in the long-run this is a move to enhance (potentially) local democracy!
