Burmese Buddhists do believe Maya was sterile. (Tried unsuccessfully to get pregnant for many years). The virgin aspect is likely due to a specific interpretation of the prophetic dream Queen Maya is said to have had prior to conception and is not a widely held view amongst Buddhists. My experience living in a Buddhist country showed me that he is indeed treated and at times considered as a god. In some cultures, Buddha meets the gods on the 25th of December. Not sure why… Buddhism takes many shapes all of them are incompatible with the teachings of Siddharta.
But none of this is the point. The point is that the Sun and his cycle are at the core of so many religious beliefs. The light that gives. Stories have traveled, shifted, morphed… Easter existed before Jesus and so did « Christmas ».
They are all attempts at owning and controlling « the light ». Which in my book is proof of « disconnection » from the light itself.
