The other day I encountered a friendly and polite waitress and it legitimately threw me off. She smiled and said hello, and didn't seem angry that I was there.

I was kind of thunderstruck for a moment, and it occurred to me that I've gotten so used to being treated like shit by people in customer service positions since ~2020 that someone living up to the old standards was remarkable, shocking even.
