A few weeks ago I did a bit of a dive into #TokiPona to see if it was a viable aux language, and if it was better than #Esperanto in being linguistically neutral and still simple.
My conclusion is that yes, it's simpler, and yes, it's more neutral, but it's simplicity comes at the cost of linguistic expression.
One might argue that Esperanto's 9000 root words and ~40 affixes is too many, Toki Pona's vocabulary is too frozen and inflexible to express most thoughts, making it really more of a fun toy or experiment in minimalism rather than a legit aux language. :(
