It feels good to see so much here on Mastodon and elsewhere as to what people are doing to celebrate Matariki. It's starting to feel like our first truly national day. (I know we have Waitangi Day but that, I think, has a different resonance.) Many pākehā like me need to embrace its uniqueness more, but I can feel something special beginning to emerge. There is an awful lot to be negative about Aotearoa at the moment, but Matariki isn't one of them - quite the opposite in fact.
