This is what I think will happen. Some time between now and election day. They're going to try to do a 9/11 remastered edition but this time with "right-wing extremists" instead of radical islamists, and in the immediate aftermath we'll see PATRIOT ACT-esque legislation fast tracked through congress with near-unanimous support that gives the government unprecedented powers to crack down on "online misinformation and disinformation". When it happens I'm going to dig this up and make a quote post.
