Yeah, using the Mastodon client API with an account hosted on a public Mastodon instance made the architecture of the bot very simple
It's just command-line program on a cheap cloud server, invoked once an hour by cron
It seemed a lot simpler than running my own bot-specific ActivePub server
I guess I could have also looked at using the ActivePub client API in a similar way as I used the Mastodon client API, but I didn't think that Mastodon instances supported that
