I love South Korea. I did part of my university degree there, learned to speak Korean, and drank a lifetime's supply of Soju. But I actually think it reinforces the hypothesis. South Korea only looks good compared to North Korea. They have relatively few rights, and most Koreans are locked into a pseudo poverty and don't get to travel like the rich Koreans. Government power is intertwined with chaebol power, and that power is at a level typical of a western state, where it can do whatever it wants, be as corrupt as it wants, and the population pays for it via inflation and absurd property prices.
