This enables them to force through policies and make compromises that no authentic socialist party or it's membership would tolerate, and while treating the right wing as a threat, facilitate it often, present it little to no challenge, and vote in a surprisingly convergent manner with it, eventually doing incrementally what the right wing always wanted in the first place, at least in areas where that tallies with oligopolistic desires.
