One aspect to me that has stood out with the #nixos drama is that the project needs to make improvements on forkability. Redis forks are a dime a dozen, with at least three that I know of which have prominent backers. NixOS has none (that I know of) why is that? I think the single biggest stopper is the binary cache, which comes with a prohibitive aws bill. But maybe I'm wrong? I would love to hear what the hurdles are from people who know more of the technical details.
