Update: First of all, thank you to everyone who replied and sent well wishes, and helpful suggestions. Your advice was much appreciated and well received! Nostriches are great! Especially want to thank TheGuySwann (npub1h8n…rpev) , seth (npub15u3…05rq) , Bevo (npub12gu…fle6) for their suggestions and help!
I found the seed phrase!! I took Guy’s advice, organized my house, found some important paperwork, and found the seed phrase hidden away in some random unusual spot like a squirrel hiding nuts for winter. I Want to thank Coinkite (npub1wu4…3vw0) for their onboarding process testing plebs to make sure they write down that seed phrase!
I’ve lost my PIN. While I did write and store the seed, I didn’t write down the PIN or the anti-phishing phrases. With that mistake, I’ve likely bricked my cold card and will need a replacement.
I do think that is a legitimate drawback to the cold card, I’m out the 300k+ sats the device costs. Maybe I don’t understand the security implications here, but I wish the device just wiped itself and let me set it up again.
Lessons- Don’t assume anything. Every time I set a cold storage up, treat that process like it’s storing my life’s work for all time. Don’t assume “it’s just a test, I’ll reset and fully set it up again later” because maybe the fees rise and you have to wait a long time before you complete the process.
Always store your seed phrase in a safe spot. Even if you forget about that spot, if it’s in a safe spot you’ll find it eventually.
Bitcoin is amazing. I am my own worst enemy at times, but Bitcoin is my friend. Seed phrases are impossible to crack, easy to store, and can fix any forgetful mistake made over time. Just store your seed phrase securely, and your bitcoin will be there for you when you need it.
Mahalo and pura vida. 🤙

quoting note1ygq…qs8dWelp, I’m 5 PIN code attempts away from losing my stack of corn.
I set up a cold card last year, and put the xpub into sparrow wallet so I could generate deposit addresses. I used the cold card a bunch testing it out and such, but now a year later I can’t remember the PIN code for the life of me.
I thought I had written down the seed phrase and PIN code, but it seems for some dumb reason I didn’t??? Or I’ve possibly misplaced it.
Now that I think about it, I think I set it up initially thinking “this is just a test, I will reset the device and set it up for real later.”
I guess it was working so smoothly I forgot to reset it and set it up again later? But that means I didn’t write the seed down or the PIN code.
I just went to do some UTXO consolidation and realized all this, I’ve forgotten the pin, and am about to brick the device trying to remember.
RIP to my 2023 stack.
