Today we said goodbye to Malcolm. He was 14, and his health has been declining steadily for a while, picking up pace over the last few weeks.

We decided to give him a last really good weekend and let him go with dignity.

Generally, I'm not a "dog person" -- Malcolm was kind of my step-dog. My wife had adopted him as a pup, and when we got together, he became part of my family.

He was one of the goodest boys ever. Pure love and sweetness. Not a single molecule of meanness in his body.
