One issue I do see with pay2relay is how we onboard the next waves of users who I believe will be less tech savvy, and probably don’t own Bitcoin or know anything about Lightning Network to be able to pay for relays. Those user are also more likely to be offended by some of the things they may see in global.

For those users I think we still need to have high quality, mostly spam free, public relays that they can connect to in order to get them using Nostr. Once they are here we can help them understand the benefits of paid relays and get them onboarded, but if they have a bad initial impression from underperforming relays or excessive spam etc then they will likely leave and not come back.
