Thinking about the wallet company that announced that "at least 30% of our products are bought as gifts." they got this number by assuming that all customers with feminine names were women buying the wallet for a husband, boyfriend or father.
They were totally unaware of their female customers and somehow actively invested in not discovering those customers existed.
