The unstated assumption in this context is consent. If two adults want to smack each other with sticks, put splinters under thier fingernails or whatever, go for it. I think the working class are less likely to have a perverted views on humiliation. They get enough of that in the daily 9-5. If I had a nickel for each time I had to apologize for someone else's actions at work I'd already be retired.
