To be fair to the FT, I don't think that's their editorial line (although a couple of columnists might take that view); their concern (perhaps rightly) is that a complex tax code is both expensive to run & offers too much opportunity for gaming the system.... they'd like to see lower taxation for business than I would, but I agree on the issue of a simpler tax system.
It doesn't need to be a 'fast tax' to be simpler....
