I just bought a 1980s stack.
It's cheaper than new and higher quality. I still own all my CDs (unlike my iTunes purchases, which turned out only to be rentals). This isn't rocket science. People like things that sound nice and are reliable.
I'll admit, I mostly use it to listen to the band camp app on my phone. I still need to get and set up a media server PC for the thing.
