Thought of the day
At this point in my life, my mind cannot grasp a single valid reason why I should sacrifice my (only?) life for my country, my civilization, or even for humankind.
Perhaps I’m selfish, cynical, and individualistic, or maybe I’m just better informed about human nature. However, I would only give my life for my loved ones, never for a meaningless flag or for a fabricated, universalistic, messianic, or nationalistic ideology—much less for someone else's lust for power and control.
To be honest, I have mixed feelings about people who can do that. On one hand, I admire their sincere belief, passion, and conviction; on the other, I despise their stupidity, fanaticism, and manipulability.
Overall I cannot understand why we should care so much about our tribe, or nation, our specie success, and much less about our individual/familial life accomplishment.
Even the human colossus as a whole is still so tiny, irrilevant, ephemeral relative to the universe, that the difference between taking care of yourself (enjoy life) and taking care of the whole mankind (batshit crazy grand scheme of things) is miniscule.
