Monzo bank has a feature that lets you see in the app if they are really on the phone with you.
It seems like if you were in control of the entire OS, as Apple are, that they could do similar - send a 'system push' authenticating the call, without which the phone will just silently block the unauthenticated call.
Or, you know, never make outbound calls over PSTN from that number and instead use Facetime Audio or something, and flat block any PSTN calls 'from' that number.
