The Greatest Night of Pop. I stumbled upon this documentary about the night in 1984 when the single "We Are the World" was recorded in Los Angeles. The documentary primarily interviews Lionel Richie, who co-wrote the single, as well as a number of artists who participated including (but not limited to) Bruce Springsteen and Cindy Lauper. I hadn't heard the song in decades, and while I remember liking it back then, it's never stayed with me. But it is a blueprint for charity singles (even though the UK "Do They Know it's Christmas?" predated it.) I quite enjoyed the documentary, not only because there's a lot of footage from the night of the recording, but also because as a human story, it's quite compelling. All these artists in a room together with no entourage and suddenly they realise they're all normal human beings. Quite entertaining and even moving at times. #music #documentary
